Paradigm shift in the way cricket is played in and out of the field !

"Cricket now a boardroom game" this has been the headline on Saturday in yahoo India news network. Interesting things mentioned over their about the way cricket is played by the people at the broad room chairs and at the stadium galleries while the match is on. One can not be surprises about such things while such a huge money is involved with the game in this subcontinent, where soccer and baseball like games are secondary to it. So people must have been taking Economic decisions not the human sports decisions.

Though interesting point to mention here is that this whole episode is applicable to every match played in any nook and corner of the country as well. Not to mention that I am hinting towards the games played over the last weekend, which were the most interesting and action packed games of the tournament thus far. Despite the loss of appetite to watch these matches by the non player SDEItes, these were sought after games , forget about the final. Bulls lost or not I am not sure but they were beaten by the charismatic knock from Amandeep Singh followed by last over 6 deliver and 2 runs stint. He deserved to be on the winner side as had they not been 9 players on the field. But still it was a good game and they have to face poor Power Rangers with 8 players or 7 players or 9 players , I am sure what I should say while many people play in many games of the tournaments anf that too many team sides.

I suppose this happens due to the dearth of players in smartdata for the league. The second semifinal the most unexpected one, was a bolt from the blue to R-Company. Who have been riding on the high wings of autocratic and young team. Not sure they played bad or Power Rangers have shown their best game.

Congratulations to both the finalists !

Still I would like to ask few questions ?

Should blog /Vlog be closed after there has been controversial match / es ?

Should players play from different teams, while their team is already out ?

Shall we forget the truthfulness and morality while we are at the climax of a game ?

Thought these questions need not really be answered but one can give it a thought from the sport's true spirit point of consideration.

A cold welcome to Semi Final Matches

Though the League started with all ho-hulla and glitter but it seems the sheen of the game has disappeared a bit after League matches have ended followed by a long break.
Despite this all, I am sure the people are anxious to know about what would be the outcome of Semi Final Matches. People who have been spectators to the earlier round matches , to some extent have premeditated results for these two games but this is the uncertain cricket.

Let us see:

who hits the sixes this time !

Who gets the ball rolling for their teams !

Who makes most out of those 10 overs !

What will be the match turning point !

and

Who will win the matches!

get ready for another week of excitement and thrill !
SPL Semifinals are on the brink from tomorrow morning 6:30 am.

League is over and now knock out teams are decided.

I went to see the match on Sunday as I thought I might see two well fought matches, but was a bit let down by the lack of persistance from Bulls & Monsters. The match between them was the lowest scoring match in the SPL so far. It was surprising to see people were not trying to give their 100%.

Here I would like to mention the extra ordinary dedication shown by Sanjeev Ranjan, who not only played for his team despite his injury but also put his more than 100% effort to put his team in some respectful total and then came with a splendid spell of 3 wickets. One catch he took of his own bowling was a delight to see.

The dismal fielding performance by the Power Rangers let them down and Rakesh Pant showed his cool temperament to take the game away from the Rangers by staying not out with a score of 42. He handled the pressure created by the Rangers by putting a respectful total of 76 out of which Haider got 56. Haider has also shown the class he possesses.

Now the Semifinals are coming round the corner and I am eagerly waiting to catch the excitement. Let us hope for equally contested matches and a great final. :)

So the finalists were decided by the last league match.....huh ?

Morning 6:15 am weather is as usual very calm and enjoyable. We all were in the ready for today's matches. Though with little concern that it would be possible to play on a field where one side is full of water and the ground is wet with dew and grass has been razed, so the debris are still there.
Finally it started at around 6:50 am and Power rangers started their inning with little worry about their win or loss.
Guys I will put a quick score here as I have to go out of station today:

Power rangers: 76 /5 in 8 overs Rocks: 77 / 2 in 6.75 overs
Might 56 knock by Haither Hayat . Retaliatory knock by Rakesh Pant and team and they won the match in 7 overs. Ye guys you missed it as you had not come to watch this. sorry we have not got any footage of the SPL for you morning dream scouts.

Bulls VS Monsters:
Both furious names but very delicate full of very tender cricketers who hate to trouble ball much to go beyond fence during the match. So was the tally here
Monsters: 29 / 7 in 7 overs Bulls: 30 / 4 in 7 overs
Very immpressive figure for Bulls to get them out for such a small total but if you would have been there to watch the match, you could see how enticing it was for on spectators :-D

So the final telly after the Great Warriors of Pistons and Monsters Bravehearts have liked it to take on the other teams in the next SPL . Watch for more updates and schedule of SPL semi finals right here tnaanaa....

Third Round of league matches around the corner this weekend !

Guys get Ready to catch the action at SPLs last round of league matches this weekend. Here is the list of matches according to which league players are going to lock their horns to get in to Semi Finals:

Saturday 12th July: Hawks Vs Pistons 6:30 am
Sunday 13th July:
Rocks vs Force 6:30 am
Monsters Vs Bulls 8:00 am

Hawks high on their long batting tail.... Rocks ready to become Rock solid once again, against the Pistons who are still in their cylindrical movements to make a place in SPL Super 4.
Bulls has got a reason to be bullish against Monsters but Monsters are yet not ready to leave their devil powers of cricketing. Power Rangers have little power left at this oil dearth stricken time and hence three teams are awaiting the battle in the field eagerly as anyone can make it to the first and historical smartData Primier League Grand Knock out Finale.
So Ladies and Gentlemen get ready for yet another exciting weekend and get some time
to leave your couch free in the early hours of these weekend days. Welcome and let us enjoy this extravaganza this week full of fire and fight between bat-ball and teams.

Finally Monsters started their Account !

It has been a rainy morning today and I thought I would go to see the match at 6:30 am but then as I peeped out of the window, scene was not so encouraging. I thought its not possible to play the match today and dumped myself again into bed.
It was a confirmation call with one of my friends around 10 am, when I asked him about how was his match. First surprise that match has been played :-). Second that they have won by beating Power Rangers.
But the both of these things were not much surprising as we have been playing all matches per schedule till now in SPL. Also Power Rangers had not got the power Men with them today. Its sad to say that one of them got injured in an accident yesterday and the other guy has fallen sick. What a pity !
Well, now the game has become more interesting off the field for people to guess who is going to play in the Knock Out Round of Semi Finals. I think Rocks and Hawks are the only teams who can relax a bit but few of the last week games have made it clear that anyone can make it have the SPL trophy with them.
Wait and Watch for the Last round of League matches where all teams are going to try their best to beat the opponents to secure a birth for Big 4 matches.
Keep watching !

Testing Times Ahead

I CAME , I SAW & I WENT

Two teams are already reading that dictum loudly with they having been sent to the Pavillion End. I think in all the encounters so far there was a combination of attitudes at display , One trying hard to Win and the other Trying harder Not to. While not intending to displease fellow players & disgrace the spirit of the game but this has been amply visible in the Winning & Loosing Teams. With such competitive Bulls, Pistons, Hawks .... each side, it is quiet surprising to see how some teams have let the victory slip one after the other.

Some volcanic teams lost the fizz when they lost direction or set ablaze a bit too early as not to survive long. It has been pitiable to see players walking in an out of the field without any Plan of action in mind, and much of the onus also goes with the Captaincy which failed to capitalize on available (8) horsepower.

There have been some great matches also with display of great captaincy . Rocks , Hawks and Power Rangers have demanding Captains & themselves continue to deliver each time. With them it has been good planning & the remnant has been the Luck Factor , rather then entering the field with Lips spelling , Luck- Be With Us.

My finishing lines would be for Monsters that are silently nestled with three losses to there side. It would be in the true spirit of the game, the brand team they represent & Attitude worthy of a SDEI'te , if they can Fight to Live another day!! If they Can show there Monstrous aggression in the remaining 2 matches.

Wonder if they cross 100 Runs Barrier?
Wonder if they can crush the opponent team in the first 4 overs ?
Wonder if they can restrict the opponent for a lowest Series Score?
Wonder if they can hit 20 sixes in a match ....

If that happens then friend's there participation will not go unnoticed,. If that happens , each member will take fond memories and important lessons for there life. If that happens , they will send couple of lessons to there rivals and colleagues. It that happens they will be the Talk of the Day.

As these famous verses from Mahabharata :-

Uth-krist Arjuna-ey , Yudhai Krit Nischay
( Rise to your feets Arjuna, And vow to fight till your last )

Good Luck

Upsets was the order of the week

Upset was the order of the week

When everyone were predetermined with the fact that the top teams of the leagues were decided based on initial euphoria, the reality sunk in. Cricket is called a great leveller : you are the champion one day and next day you are flat on the floor. Indeed that was the order of the week where we witnessed very exciting matches. The tone was set by Hawks when they defeated the star studded Monster on saturday. It was an all round display of team work and some wonderful batting by Amandeep and Raman. But, the best surpise was Bulls coming from behind and defeating the fancied Power Rangers in a heart stopping encounter. Power Rangers defended well a small total of 36 only to be let down by a dropped catch in the last over, allowing Bulls last pair to steal the winning runs with three balls to go.

Then came the much awaited Clash of Rocks vs Pistons which turned out to be a one sided affairs with Rocks dominating Pistons in all department, thanks once again to their strong batting line up.

Bulls tryst with their moment of glory was shortlived when Hawks comprehensively defeated Bulls who were bundled out for 44 and the chase was easily done by Hawks while loosing 3 wickets only.

Then came a startegic ploy by PowerRangers Captain Rocky, who came as a pinch hitter in his match against Pistons and took the game away from them by scoring 35 in first 2 overs. The SPL leauge started to get exciting now.

But who will defeat Rocks who went ahead with clinical precision to demolish Bulls again to become the No 1 on the leauge. It seems to be battle between the remaining 5 teams with Rocks in a different league.

BUT !!!

Law of nature cannot be fought : what goes up, comes down...Was it Newton who said that..The upset of the league happened today with Hawks defeating Rocks comprehensively. Chasing a total of 70 to win, it seems to be going in the direction of Rocks once again but Hawks kept to their strategy and cool head to pluck wickets one by one by some excellent all round team effort Result : Rock cracked. This should give hope to all other teams that one a particular day anyone who plays well and keeps their cool can WIN. It cant get more exciting than this. We never thought that these games will be played with such intensity and passion, but what reflects on the field is a true sprit of smartData which WORK HARD AND PLAY HARD. We encourage non playing people to come and witness the excitement which is going to reach it fervish pitch as the league moves towards last 4 rounds. Hawks sat on Rocks, Power Rangers Fired the Pistons, Bulls rode on Power Rangers...Can it get more interesting than this : Who knows ..Keep watching this space so as to not miss the action.

A spotlight on the events going on in smartdata premier league

smartData Premier League seems to be heading towards an interesting juncture. Only 1 team has been able to secure the position in final 4 till now. Check out how they are going in the series till now:

Rocks: they have won 3 matches out of 3 played so they will not be affected by the outcomes of the remaining two matches. Their usual knock against Bulls today has made it clear that they are the contenders for the final spot as well.
Rakesh need to keep firing with bat if they want to have the champagne at the end. But at the same time there grip might loosen as other smart teams might find out some strategy against them.

Hawks: Second team topping the chart here. Seems to be making it to the top 4 teams if they could just crack one of the two remaining games against Rocks or monsters. So they will have a birth reserved in Semis. Even in case they losses these two games they have to maintain the runs rate and they will make it to the next level.
They need to sharpen their batting hawks, since they have been inconsistent till now. But they will need to keep the opponents surprises with their bowling time and again.

Power Rangers: They are the third likely team which can make it to the top 4 based upon the types of games they have played till now. They need to beat either monsters or Rocks to secure their bid for the SPL. in most likely case they will do this by beating monsters as they have appeared to the underdogs till now. So they will make it to the semis I can say 70 % sure.

Bulls: Though Bulls have not been so bullish till now, the fate has been some what against them in league matches. They have 50 / 50 chances of making it to the top 4 slot. If they win against Monsters in their last game, they might make it to the semis based upon the run rate they are having till now. But if they loss this game they are out. Better they focus on the last league match and make it as their entry door to the Semifinal of the league next week.

Pistons: They appeared to be rock stars in their first game, as if they will finish every game with style but then they suddenly fainted away against the Power Rangers and Hawks. They have scattered team right now which is just playing cricket as other teams want them to play. They need to find the best bowling and betting order to make it to the final 4 by winning the next two games. If they just does 1, they might loss due to bad run rate. Its time to their batting trio to fire and captain to keep himself away from much bowling that too in the initial or slog overs.

Monsters: Monsters could not do anything that could be termed as monstrous till now in spl cricket. One reason might be due the tough matches they have played till now. But they have not even fired in bowling or batting fronts very well, which has given them the title of underdogs till now. Since they have got 3 matches still to be played, this makes them still in the game if they could beat the opponents in these three games. But losing any one of them would prove to be sudden death for them due to their bad run rate.

So this analysis till date makes the almost all teams as bidders for semi finals based upon different probability proportions. Let us just wait and watch "Which way the wind blows this week" . By coming Sunday we must have the clear picture of top 4 boys.

Another Turbulent show by Bulls

This has been another turbulent performance by bulls that has led to the last over win for Hawks. Chasing a target of 45 runs , hawks had to wait for 8th over to cross the winning mark. Though they never seemed out of the game but it was not a better show as earlier games by them as well. Thanks to some nice flicks by Abhijeet Sir and Amandeep.

Cheers

Nothing Runs Like Winners

This has been the story all about the Sunday special league match between Rocks and Pistons. Pistons who appeared to be the real warriors after the previous game, turned out to be the deck of cards this time when they had to go through the litmus test.
While taking the wring decision to ask the Rocks to play on the comparatively dry pitch in second match of the day, Pistons had given the sign of wrong thinking about the match. One has to robust enough to chase till the end, thats the thumb rule in cricket. As one can not survive with few Aces in the deck.

So the Rocks were able to take the total above 80 first beating the last over from Pistons to 21 runs.

Then there was real charm awaited from the firecrackers by pistons. But this time it was again Rocks who fired a triple gun shots to make the Pistons lame in very second over of their inning. Good Job by Tarun Sood here.
Now Rocks are unchallenged till semifinals, where someone else from other teams might get the mileage to score against their seamers from Rock.

Let us hope for the better fights in the forthcoming days, with some entertaining innings by both parties again. Cheers

Bulls forceless but Power Rangers lost their Range as well

Guys I can not make this complex as it involves me.
Just have a look at the final scores of the second match on Saturday Morning. This seemed like everyone was in a rush.
Power Rangers: 37 / 7 in 8 overs. 4 vickets gone for just a dreadful figure of 13, I do not exactly remember, pardon me if anyone knows the right figure ;-D

Bulles: Bullish like everyone on the ground as they had done a miraculous bowling to have the force limited to the lowest score of the tournament. 1 out for 1. 2 out in twenties, 3rd followed up while 4rth took time so thet they get into 30s. the real fun started in the 5th over from Rocky when they started throwing away wickets because they were not willing to take such an easy win. After all what for SPL is , if their is not pulse rate of more than 120 in last few overs of the match. bulls need 8 runs in 3 overs, 3 wickets safe. Bats man send ball for follow through catch but the bowlers could not get hold of it, so batsman decided to take the another root to take most dire needed run and their is the run out. next few balls he is also back to have some rest and see how others play, in his team. Last pair on ground and power angers feel the force to breadth now. But in vain catches win matches and they dropped one. So Bulls got the gift they had been awaiting for last couple of days.
One thing is clear : No one has got strategy for playing matches, but once they are in, their haphazard moves becomes Dhoni's unlikely decisions to crumble the other side down. I hope we are better managers for our development teams than for our cricket teams. Thats happy ending at least for me :-)

Yet another Geek's weekend in Ground !

Dear Pals

This time there has been much awaited encounters between previous week's losers and the winning bull riders. Though this became another disaster for one of the teams but for most others previous losers it has been a relieving weekend to save their faces :-) .

yes you read right save their faces with as they are expected to win their matches by their fans like you sleeping at home , while champs were fighting for a single-single run at the late wee hours of Saturday and Sunday. We should thank the Indra for not blessing us with the another soothing shower previous night.

Anyways, you are interested in the commentary on the matches more than this wheather and time report I know but relax it was important as this only tells you that I am real cricket blog writer than just another geek putting up rough scrap over here. Who knows who is on the other side in this world of internet. This time it turned out to be the another sour tablet for Monsters and they could not bite the bullets from Hawk side.
They started bowling nicely putting initial pressure on Hawks but soon they started faltering as this time the skipper had changed in Hawk squad and this was none other than Mr. Ajay Tewari. Hawks soon started rolling the ball to their favor by sending the towards different nooks of the ground in later half of the batting inning. Inning summed up at a modest total of 74 for Hawks which seemed to be a chase able total for monsters with their biggies in good form till date.
Now see the other side of the story which is as interesting as anything can be. Monsters started well with bat and were quite impressive till the time another inter-state player in the league mr. Bharat sent their best players back in an over to have rest till the next match coming week. So in nut shell this time again Monsters had bite the sour bullet while Hawks could forget the last over lose in last weeks encounter against PRMF.
So Monsters are no more monsters as they will need to win all their coming matches to settle the score with Rocks and Hawks if they want to in the Semifinals.

BULLS : Got Carried Away once they saw Pistons??

Bulls turned out to be all words and no action when they meekly resigned to powerful display of hitting by Pistons batsman especially Amit Chawla. They were themselves to be blamed for the pathetic display of fielding where it appeared that they were catching fireballs than cricket whenever the ball decided to kiss their hand in its straight flight from Piston players bat to their lovely soft hands. Did they practice less ! No Way ! Pistons by their awsome diplay of grit and determination has made the punters to rethink as to the challengers to the top slot. Bulls you did not play well, learn from your mistakes and correct before its too late. Dont use bulls head, use bull power man! Good luck on your remaining Journey

Catches win matches ! Thats right guys....

Bulls down with Piston's last minute lucky shots ! The notion, 'Catches win matches' proved to be quite true in the crucial SPL league match of today as well. Though Bulls started off with poor opening of the match but the things have been quite controlled by the end of the inning when they summarized their inning with 79 runs. Thanks to impressive shots by Sony John and middle order stay by Sameer Sood. They had a defend able total at the end as compared to the previous two league matches.

As soon as Pistons started with their opening fierce opening pair Susheel and Amit Chawla, the match was at its pinnacle of charm with their deliberate lofty shots. Soon the game was in swirl again like the previous encounter between Hawks and Power Rangers. Though Sushil departed with fewer shots but it was Amit and Sanvir who took the team towards goal. This would have been an easy chase if the bowlers from Bulls would not have tried their extra bit in last two overs. But , Alas! they had not dropped those two important catches , which made them feel low at the end.
Pistons got their nerves back in the 5th ball of last over with a blistering sixer from Amit , who got life in the earlier delivery. Pity on me, who lost that catch :-(

Cheers to spirit of the game and first round of league matches between all teams! Watch out for more action this weekend.

Suggestions for Power Rangers and Hawks

Posted on behalf of Ajay Sir:

Power Rangers needs to really work on their batting if they need to make an indelible impression on the tournament, which I think they deserve to considering the depth of talent they possess. As far as Hawks are concerned, someone has to loose, the better team who could handle the pressure, WON ! Congratulations to Power Rangers : Job Well done.

Hawks team : Don’t lose heart...Remember Mumbai Indians in the IPL. As said, in the team brief at the start of the match, “play to enjoy” don't worry about winning/loosing. I am sure people did enjoyed what we could do considering our opponents and what we could not do in the end, also let to enjoyment and excitement: isn’t it ? :) .Rest assure we will be remembered for our entertainment value we will add to SPL

The match has given the desired competitive streak to the SPL and yes we managed something..No boundaries to the opponent..record difficult to beat and so is the record of loosing on the last ball :)

But ...

We will Work hard and try to put up a better show next time.

VIVA ...SPL

Practice session a bitter experience for Bulls

Mohali 9:41 am:
This has been a really bitter experience in the first practice session at the tournament ground today for Bulls team. They got a Ton to chase by the other team of mixed player from SD. which they could not chase to smell the win in 8 overs.

So I think Pistons are going to be the tough nut to crack tomorrow if we do not improve our fielding and coordination. Bowling strategy needs to be redefined along with better batting focus.

Let us see which way the wind blows tomorrow. It has been good for shane Warn last time I suppose ;-)
if you do not get it see the image LOL.

Swinging match favored the luckier guys in a clash between Hawks and Power rangers

Mohali June 22nd 2008:

Match is won by Hawks , this would have been the title if the last ball run out would not have been there for Power Ranger. Earlier in a dull looking match power rangers did a modest start with with initial pair Raman and Piyush. While Raman tried to smash some big hits but was not reach towards boundary before he was caught at mid wicket. With all singles and doubles, just saluting to the nice bowling and fielding attack by Hawks , Power Rangers could only make a small total of 57 runs in 8 overs.

When Hawks started the inning it look like an easy job as their opening pair mr. Ajay Tewari and Sudir Dadhwal looked in quite good form, hitting first ball of their inning to fence. They were deliberately kicking power ranger bowlers over and above the fence to make the target easily achievable. But the real tryst started when the match entered in to the 6th over with 17 runs required in 18 balls and 5 wickets remaining. This was a falling time for Hawks as they lost their start player Amandeep for nil as well as others followed the suit.

Still match was interesting till the last over when they needed 11 runs in 6 balls. Rocky was sent to fence and two doubles in first three balls but then came his high flying in swing balls and he could take the wicket of the bats man with it. Hawks needed 3 runs in last ball but Bharat could only manage 1 run and got out in a bit to make the second run for draw.
What a match and what an exciting second half. What I see problem with the batting plan of hawks is that they relied on big strokes and ignored the singles and doubles in between so giving chance to power Rangers to over power them .
What a Match guys !

First Big match of the tournament

Nothing get bigger than this. Will Power ragers overcome hawks? Will the superheros of power rangers penetrate through sharp skinned hawks group? Who will come out winner from these 2 star stunned teams? Just watch live action tommorow at 6:30 AM.

Monsters bogged down by Rocks

Mohali 21st june:
First clash between the monsters has been really an exciting experience here. While Monsters got chance to start the season's first batting inning things seemed to be favoring them till the middle of the first half. They were 50 for 4 in first 4 overs. But the fate turned rude when they just made 17 of the next 4 ours , making their total 67 in 8 overs.

Rocks Cheering after the win

Rocks started with their mix of young brigade members and their coach and captain Rakesh Pant. But nice they get started their was no looking back. Rakesh made 41 in their match winning streak. Their team just took 5.4 overs to finish the 68 runs at the loss of just two vickets.
Thanks to the young brigade of Rocks.

Its party time guys :-)
